HVRM Monday 30 May 2011

Greetings to All,

Memorial Day at North Judson was hot, humid and not a drop of rain. Plenty of water
remains in the fields, rivers and ditches. A welcome relief from the past 2 stormy
days.

Yesterdays derailment was cleaned up in La Crosse and all of the equipment pulled back
to North Judson. I don't know if 765 backed up all the way or not. Some changes
in the passenger consist, the 2 open air cars and the EJ&E transfer caboose was
on the caboose track. LIRR 2937 was used on the train, A/C worked great after
a good cleaning of the filters.  The photo runbys were held outside of La Crosse at
a road crossing. C&I crews were getting IN8 crossing repaired to make sure nothing
like this happens again.

Ridership on the train today is not known. NKP 765 was positioned on the C&O 2789
track for shutdown till the 17 of June or so. After dropping the fire and releasing
steam from the boiler, water will most likely remain in the boiler. Tomorrow 765
will be positioned in the west shop for storage.

Richard loaded coal into 765's tender and all went well. Just don't overload the
hopper. Richard has also arranged for the FWRHS bottle tender to be sucked clean
of all rust debris that has been scraped off the inside during the next week or so.

Lots of clean-up after the last train to make the museum look good. Not sure exactly
where the passenger equipment will be stored till the next operating weekend.

We have a couple of weeks to get equipment painted up. Next saturday, after my last
day of driving bus on Friday, I will load my generator in the van to have power to
sand or grind the doors of the MDT reefer. Les will get a close match of paint for the
doors that now are just a brown color. Will try to get there early in the morning
to avoid the heat.

I hope everyone had a good safe weekend.

Tom
